Declan McKenna and Kaiser Chiefs to close Newcastle's socially distanced gig series
The UK's first socially distanced venue, Newcastle's Virgin Money Unity Arena, will come to a close this weekend with performances from Declan McKenna and Kaiser Chiefs.
The Virgin Money Unity Arena was the UK's first socially distant outdoor venue to open following the coronavirus lockdown, and is situated at the Newcastle Racecourse in Gosforth Park.
After hosting gigs from the likes of Two Door Cinema Club, Supergrass, Tom Grennan, The Libertines, Jason Manford, Bill Bailey, Maxïmo Park, Sam Fender and more over the past month, organisers have confirmed that the outdoor venue will close this weekend, and Declan McKenna and Kaiser Chiefs will be the last artists to perform.

Festival organiser Steve Davis said, "We are delighted with how the event has worked out and we're extremely grateful to Newcastle City Council and to all local residents. Their positive can-do attitude has helped employ over 150 people in the local music industry for the last six weeks. We plan to make these final shows a big celebration for the city and its music fans. We are delighted with the lineup that will bring the event to a fitting finale."
In order to maintain social distancing, attendees will have to arrive by car and will be directed to their own private viewing platform by staff. Refreshments can be pre-ordered and delivered later at the viewing platform during the event. A one-way system will be in place for toilet access, with hand sanitiser dispensers outside each cubicle.
