David Bowie's final studio recordings set to be released next month
David Bowie's final studio recordings are set to be revealed to the public next month as part of the upcoming Lazarus Cast Album.
Bowie's musical Lazarus is set to open in London on 8 November.
The upcoming album, released 21 October via ISO/RCA, will feature the original NYC cast and band perfoming their renditions of Bowie's music, as well as Bowie's three final studio recordings: "No Plan", "Killing A Little Time", and "When I Met You".
The songs "bring completely new dimensions to their cast counterparts", and were produced with long-time collaborator Tony Visconti and recorded with the same band that performed on Bowie's final studio album Blackstar, released days before his death back in January. The songs will be included alongside the studio version of "Lazarus" on a separate disc (CD edition).
The album (presumably the cast portion) is produced by Henry Hey, the musical director of Lazarus. A press release reveals the creation of the record: "The album was recorded January 11, 2016. Upon arriving at the studio, the musicians and cast were shocked and saddened to learn that Bowie had passed away the evening before. Their emotional performances that day are captured on this recording."
Jonathan Barnbrook - who worked on the artwork for Blackstar, The Next Day, Heathen, and Nothing Has Changed - worked on the cast LP artwork.
Blackstar is nominated for this year's Mercury Prize - Michael C. Hall, who stars in the production's lead role, will be performing "Lazarus" at the ceremony on 15 September with Hey and the Lazarus house band.
Shortly after Bowie's passing it was revealed that there was “a long list of unscheduled musical releases that Bowie planned before he died.”
In related news, recent reports suggest that Bowie's ashes were scattered at Burning Man festival in the USA.
