David Bowie won more Grammys last night than he did during his entire lifetime
David Bowie won big at the Grammys last night, winning every one of the awards he was nominated for.
Bowie's clean sweep at the 59th Grammy Awards saw him given gongs for Best Recording Package, Best Alternative Music Album, Best Engineered Non-Classical Album, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song.
Interestingly EDM duo The Chainsmokers somehow ended up accepting Bowie's award for the latter on his behalf. Okay.
But that bizarre personnel choice wasn't the only big surprise of the night pertaining to Bowie: it turns out he's now won more awards posthumously than he did during his entire living career. As Noisey note he took home the Best Music Video award in 1985 ("Jazzin' For Blue Jean"), got a place in the Hall Of Fame in '99, and then scooped a Lifetime Achievement award in 2006.
As well as the five this year, Maria Schneider was given the Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals last year for "Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)".
