Dave Okumu pays tribute to Prince with Jamie Woon collab "Oceans Of Purple"
Dave Okumu has shared "Oceans Of Purple", his personal tribute to Prince and the first single released on his new label.
UPDATE 21/7: There's a new video by Jacob Hopewell to enjoy - check it out below.
The Invisible's frontman wrote the track in the weeks following Prince's death on 21 April. It's due out 25 June via Okumu's own Ruby Moon Records.
It features Jamie Woon on additional vocals, strings by Julian Ferrareto, and was mixed by Lexxx at Konk. Guy Davie mastered.
“Prince saved my life. He was, and remains, my favourite musician," says Okumu. “Raw and refined, he resides in my spirit as an emblem for free and fearless expression. Even beyond the grave, through his overwhelming contribution to culture, Prince challenges me to go deep into my inspiration and not to be dictated to by external factors. In recent years, through the loss of my mother, I have learned that death can't contain love. As I confront the grief of losing my hero, I rejoice in the fact that I will spend the rest of my years floating in an ocean of purple.”
All proceeeds will be donated to Nordoff Robins, a specialist music therapy charity.
The Invisible release new LP Patience, featuring Jessie Ware, Anna Calvi, Rosie Lowe, and more, on 10 June.
