Daniel Romano announces new record Mosey
Daniel Romano has announced a new record called Mosey,
Evidently as poetic in his day-to-day life as he is on record, Romano has spoken at length about how Mosey was formed.
Speaking about the album's initial conception, Romano says:
“A vision is only as clear as a movement made in the dark. If there are rapid movements in the dark, you have to rely on other types of sensors to guide you through that void: fear, instinct, and the current. Anything overthought becomes an untruth. Anything overlooked may be the hidden bijou. The trajectory was never quite visual. It pulled me, I pulled it, and in the end I only ever forgot her name. I only somewhat remember her face but her voice is reverberating still in the dry bones of tomorrow. Velocity is my only vision.”
Continuing, Romano talks about the writing process - the first rough draft was penned while at sea:
“The Atlantic has been good to me. The voices of the spirits ring more clearly there. They linger longer on the winds. Land brings a different gale and these types of things collide if you’re not careful. You can’t play sorrow without a bow and you can’t leave the earth without the sea. The story can’t be fully told that high above the ancient valleys. You must come back and remember it wrong.”
Finally, Romano discusses the necessity of music on his own work:
“Music is the only form of love I know. Perhaps it’s the music in the world at large that influences me. And yet we pass it down secretly over the years and erode its engravings with dead ancient tears... It seems as if music is joining the gravesite of poems and chance. Now they’re building a tombstone of plastic and sweat-pants, a new future convenient and crass. Music is alive in us and we treat it like a cancer. Music is a cure we blame as disease... Music is the only form of love I know. The new dead medium.”
Mosey is expected on New West in late Spring 2016. It follows If I've Only One Time Askin', which was released earlier this year.
Romano will be heading to the UK for a new show, presented by The Line Of Best Fit, at The Lexington in London on 31 May. Tickets are on sale now.
