Blur frontman Damon Albarn has been given the status of "local king" in a Malian village.
Albarn's work with African music - especially Malian - is well documented, and following a recent performance at Toumani Diabaté’s Festival Acoustik Bamako in the country, Albarn was honoured for work with Malian music. He also visited a music school in the Griot village of Kirina, and cut the ribbon on a new classroom named after him.
As well as his status as "local king", Albarn has been given a new Malian moniker, Makandjan Kamissoko.
Watch the inauguration of the classroom below, and listen to a report about Albarn's recent trip from BBC Radio 4's The World Tonight.
