Cross Record details new LP Wabi-Sabi, shares stunning first single "Steady Waves"
Cross Record has announced a new album called Wabi-Sabi and its lead single "Steady Waves".
Emily Cross, the brains behind Cross Record, is an artist, musician, and photographer - she shot the cover art: “We have quite a few scorpions out here in Texas. It’s an image that sticks to making the record here in this new environment - I’m definitely not used to having scorpions around, that’s for sure. Me and Dan [Duszynski, husband] are both Scorpios too - we both joke around about being like them!”
The LP, recorded during 2014 and 2015, was produced and engineered by Duszynski (who's also part of her live setup), with additional production from Theo Karon. Thor Harris (Swans, Bill Callahan) has provided marimba, kalimba, and "mysterious black box" noises.
Speaking about the album's inspirations, Cross says: “I’m very influenced by my surroundings and the natural world, the landscape here has definitely inspired me. I’ve traveled a lot and I’ve lived in a lot of places. I think every experience molds us, right?”
Wabi-Sabi is out via Ba Da Bing on 29 January 2016. It follows 2013 debut long-player Be Good.
