Courtney Barnett takes home Australian Music Prize
Australian pop-rock hero Courtney Barnett has won the Australian Music Prize for her debut record.
Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit, which was released last year, beat out efforts from Tame Impala, Royal Headache, and Sarah Blasko.
Triple J report that after winning, Barnett told the ceremony's audience: “I respect so many Australian artists so to be picked as the one that wins is pretty amazing. Plus, I’ve never had a novelty cheque before - I’m a bit nervous to hold it. One thing I like about this award, it’s judged on the art and the music and it’s not on sales or other boring shit like that; so thanks.”
Henry Rollins presented the award, which comes with a tasty AUS$30,000. The 2015 Australian Music Price was scooped by REMI for Raw X Infinity.
