Courtney Barnett shares update on new music, says she's been working on "soft, folk songs"
Australia's Courtney Barnett has given an update on the sound of her new music, revealing she's been working on "soft, folk songs".
In a new interview with host Zan Rowe on Australian radio station Double J, Courtney Barnett has revealed that her new music will be softer than her previous material.
She reveals she started writing new material while on tour, and that her new songs "a distinctly different feel".
Barnett said, "I've been working on these songs since the last album came out, I guess."
Speaking about the sound of the new songs, Barnett added, "A lot of them are these soft, folk songs that are written in hotel rooms. You can tell, they're timid and quiet."
Barnett also revealed she has been writing at home during the coronavirus pandemic, "Some [songs] are new. I wrote a song in this house, when I got back from LA as COVID was kicking off. I quarantined here for two weeks and wrote this song while looking out of my window; just the repetition and pointlessness of daily activities that I was observing out the window!"
The Australian musician is yet to follow up her 2018 LP Tell Me How You Really Feel. Last year Barnett released new song "Untitled (Play It On Repeat)" as part of her MTV Unplugged album.
