Country legend Patsy Cline to be reborn as hologram
Country legend Patsy Cline, the voice behind such classics as "Crazy", "Walking After Midnight" and "I Fall To Pieces", is set to become the latest musical icon reimagined as a hologram.
Rapper 2Pac was famously recreated for Coachella in 2012, and Michael Jackson was reincarnated in digital form for an awards ceremony (to perform a track from Xscape). Other stars and culture figures - including M.I.A and Janelle Monáe - have also been summoneed for the stage.
Cline died in a plane crash in 1963 at the age of 30. She was the first woman inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame, and becomes the first country star to be officially reborn as a hologram.
Speaking about the choice to select Cline, Hologram USA's CEO Alki David said:
"We chose Patsy as our first Country hologram project, and our first female hologram project, for a reason: she was a pioneer who influenced generations of singers around the globe. Patsy Cline will demonstrate how we can bring all the warmth and virtuosity of a true icon back for new audiences."
The new show will feature performances of her three aforementioned hits, "A-list stars" and "audience interaction". The show will open in 2016.
Buddy Holly and Liberace are also set to get the holo-treatment, with the former to perform in his home state of Texas, and the latter will debut in Las Vegas. There is no word on full tours from either.
