Composer Matthew Bourne shares "Extinction" ahead of new piano-based record
British composer and pianist Matthew Bourne is sharing "Extinction", the new track from his upcoming third solo record Isotach.
Bourne, who last year release his experimental moogmemory full-length (and accompanying EP) returns behind the keys and strings for Isotach. The new track is seven captivating minutes of threadbare classical, with shivering cello threads buzzing beneath semi-ambient melodic excursions; the extended build-up makes the closing seconds all the more satisfying.
Isotach was recorded in Bourne's rural Yorkshire home, with his piano overlooking the visual feast of the moors - as well as spontaneity in spades, the collection's title and tones reflect the weather, with some of the "extreme" rain and wind captured on the mics. Isotach it sees Bourne reacquaint himself with the piano, following his 2012's award-winning Montauk Variations LP.
