Coachella is reportedly rescheduling next year's dates again
Reports suggest that Coachella organisers are about to delay next year's event from April until October.
The double-weekender festival was originally due to take place in April this year, but following the outbreak of COVID-19 in March, organisers decided to reschedule the event until October, with hopes that the pandemic and social distancing measures would be long gone.
Coachella's October rescheduled dates got cancelled, and resulted in Coachella announcing next year's event, which was due to take place in April.
However, Rolling Stone reports that sources that have been in contact with promoters AEG and Goldenvoice, have been asked to prepare for the festival to reschedule for autumn 2021.
One source (who reportedly works at a major talent agency) told the publication that the festival is "100% moving", and added, "Frankly, they were supposed to announce [the change] over Labor Day. They hadn’t. And they were supposed to announce at the end of September - they hadn’t."
The source also revealed that they have had contact from Goldenvoice CEO and Coachella founder Paul Tollett’s office, and the new dates for the festival are set to be in the first or second week of October. The source added that "they are holding the first three weeks to be safe" as some artists are yet to confirm availability for next year's event.
Rolling Stone notes that a rep for AEG declined to comment, and Riverside County health officer Cameron Kaiser and Goldenvoice officials also declined to comment.
Mark Scott, the city manager of Indio (where the festival takes place) said, "We know Goldenvoice is driven by a desire to deliver quality experience, so safety is a huge part of what they do. It would not surprise me if they had to defer again."
