Cloud Nothings share new track "Nothing Without You" with accompanying game
Cloud Nothings are back with the third taster of their The Shadow I Remember album, "Nothing Without You", which is also accompanied with an online video game.
"Nothing Without You" marks the group's first release of 2021, following last year's singles "The Spirit Of" and "Am I Something".
Cloud Nothings' new track is also teamed with an interactive online game that features the animated character from their "The Spirit Of" music video. Users are tasked with looking after the creature by using a combination of food, petting, electrocution, medical attention and cleaning, and the aim is to keep the creature's health as full as you can for the duration of the song.
Frontman Dylan Baldi said of the song and accompanying game, ""Nothing Without You" explores both the negative and positive aspects of dependency, whether it be on a person, a place, an object, or nothing at all. Jesse Jacobs and Vagabond Dog took that concept and filtered it through the ultimate needy creature, the Tamagotchi."
The Shadow I Remember follows their July surprise quarantine album The Black Hole Understands, and saw the band reunite with producer Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studios in Chicago.
Most of the album's 11 tracks are capped around three minutes. Baldi says, "That’s the goal - I want the three-minute song to be an epic. That’s the short version of the long-ass jam."
