Cloud Nothings release surprise quarantine album The Black Hole Understands
Cloud Nothings have released surprise album The Black Hole Understands on Bandcamp today (3 July), which was recorded during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Black Hole Understands is the first release from Cloud Nothings since lead vocalist Dylan Baldi shared 10 demo tracks intended for an album back in April.
Brooklyn Vegan reports that Baldi says of their new LP, "When the world shut down in March, making music was the only thing keeping me tethered to any sense of normalcy. The Black Hole Understands is a record born of this early quarantine anxiety and confusion."
According to the album description on Bandcamp, Cloud Nothings started work on The Black Hole Understands about a month into quarantine, when Baldi and drummer Jayson Gerycz started sending files back and forth. The guitars, bass, and vocals for the new songs were tracked in Philly while drums and mixing happened in Cleveland.
Baldi adds of the process, "It kind of shocks me that we managed to make this whole album via email."
The Black Hole Understands is Cloud Nothings' first LP since 2018's Last Building Burning. The band will be donating 25% of Bandcamp sales to Play On Philly and Rainey Institute.
