Classic Beatles albums to finally receive gold and platinum statuses
Thirteen Beatles albums, including Rubber Soul, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Revolver, are set to receive gold and platinum statuses following recent changes in BPI certification.
They hadn’t previously been considered as they were released prior to the British Phonographic Industry’s silver, gold, and platinum award system in 1973.
Now, as they are being reconsidered, although only back to when the Official Charts Company was started in 1994, albums like Sgt. Pepper are being awarded triple-platinum status (having 900,000 copies since 1994, compared to about 5 million in the UK since 1967) and Help, Rubber Soul, Revolver and The White Album are going platinum nigh a half-century after their original debuts.
Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys, and Marvin Gaye are also being given much-belated platinum awards.
