Chuck Berry announces first album in nearly 40 years to celebrate 90th birthday
The legendary Chuck Berry is celebrating his 90th birthday by announcing a new record - his first in nearly 40 years.
The LP, simply titled Chuck, is due out in 2017 via Dualtone. It'll be Berry's first new album in 38 years, and follows 1979's Rock It.
Chuck has been recorded in a number of studios around St. Louis, Missouri, and features his longtime backing band - including children Charles Jr. and Ingrid, Jimmy Marsala, Robert Lohr, and Keith Robinson. Most of the material is written and produced by the icon himself.
In a press release Berry says: “This record is dedicated to my beloved Toddy [Thelmetta Berry, Chuck's wife of 68 years]. My darlin’ I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!”
Charles Jr. adds: “What an honor to be part of this new music. The St. Louis band, or as dad called us ‘the Blueberry Hill Band', fell right into the groove and followed his lead. These songs cover the spectrum from hard driving rockers to soulful thought provoking time capsules of a life’s work.”
