Childish Gambino says making his new album "wasn’t a lot of fun"
Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, has broken his silence on the circumstances that helped create latest LP "Awaken, My Love!".
Despite being a pretty upbeat record with plenty of energy and soulful funk gloriousness, Glover didn't have the greatest time getting it all together.
"I like sucker punches," Glover says to triple j in his first interview since the release of LP3, referring to Questlove's reaction. “I like things that you’re not expecting. You know, the feeling of expecting water and getting lemonade, your brain kind of flips. We play with pictures and sounds that affect people in ways they don’t realise are happening until the fifth listen...”
"It’s funny, I think people hear the album and, to be completely honest... it wasn’t a lot of fun," he admitted to the Australian radio statio. "It was actually really hard. I was going through a lot, and I also think in America we’re going through a lot right now, with everything that’s going on..."

Before this new LP, Gambino's last release was 2014 mixtape STN MTN/KAUAI, and his last record was 2013's Because The Internet. Since he last released music, Gambino returned to TV with acclaimed FX series Atlanta.
