Chairlift's Caroline Polachek releases free 18-track solo record
Caroline Polachek of Chairlift (for now, anyway) has released a brand new solo record featuring 18 ambient tracks.
The album, Drawing The Target Around The Arrow, is an ethereal excursion and was revealed via The Creative Independent alongside an in-depth interview about the LP and her career as a whole. It's available now via all the usual digital platforms.
The LP, built from "pure tones... oscillations of constant amplitude", is Polachek's first instrumental release. It compiles "meditative, minimal pieces" created during 2013-2016, and is composed, produced, and mixed by the artist herself.
"There’s a lack of agenda here," Polachek say in the interview. "I’m not trying to insert a personality in any way. The last two records I made were deeply personal and diaristic and emotional, and it was nice to take a break from talking at the listener with this one. That’s also why I wanted to give away the record for free. It feels more like a gift, rather than, 'I have made this tower in my likeness, admire it now!' It was like, 'Here is something you can use if you’d like to. It’s there.'"
Polachek has confirmed two CEP performances at National Sawdust on 23 and 24 February - she'll be accompanied by a 12-part choral arrangement.
Last month Chairlift revealed that they'd be going their separate ways after a farewell tour in the spring, with both Polachek and bandmate Patrick Wimberly pursuing other projects.
