Chad VanGaalen announces new record Light Information and shares lead single "Old Heads"
Master-of-all-trades Chad VanGaalen is back with "Old Heads", the first single from new album Light Information.
The record - about "not feeling comfortable with really anything" - is the follow up to 2014's Shrink Dust. The first taste sees the director/composer/illustrator/artist/singer/songwriter/animator/king of the creative world get his jangle on and dive deep into shimmery, summery melodies.
Light Information features VanGaalen on writing, performing, and producing duties (Ryan Bourne contributes bass on "Mystery Elementals", with VanGaalen's daughters Ezzy and Pip adding vocals on "Static Shape"). It's the result of six years' hard work, originally taking shape prior to Shrink Dust.
"Being a parent has given me a sort of alternate perspective, worrying about exposure to a new type of consciousness that's happening through the internet," VanGaalen explains of some the album's themes and ideas. "I didn’t have that growing up, and I'm maybe trying to preserve a little bit of that selfishly for my kids."
VanGaalen has also today detailed a European tour for October, including stops in London and Leeds. Find out more.
