Chad Valley reveals his alter-ego in the video for 'Arms Away'
Having recently released Entirely New Blue, the impressive follow-up to 2012's much-loved debut LP Young Hunger, Chad Valley reveals the visuals for album centrepiece 'Arms Away'.
"Arms Away is about steering your life into a completely new direction after seeing things from a new perspective." Hugo Manuel, the brain behind Chad Valley explains. "The video plays on the idea of perspective too - the boy and myself are the same person but in different lights. The line "put my eyes on you" was the catalyst for this idea which director Lauren Sieczkowski (Vampire Weekend, El-P, TV on the Radio, Fendi, Vogue, Anthropologie, etc.) turned into an surreal tale of myself and my alter-ego running away from demons and angels - at least this is my take on it."
Moving on from the nostalgic, hazy chillwave of his 2012 debut, Manuel remarks on his foray into new, yet instantly familiar territories: "The incredibly fast tempo of this one is something very new for me and something I really enjoyed working with. This was the last song I wrote for the album and is one of my proudest achievements yet. Watching the new and inventive ways people dance to this song on tour every night for the past two months has been a joy, so its great to have some more dance-moves to inspire people for futures shows!"
