The campaign for Jarvis Cocker's "Running The World" to get to Number One has been extended
The original campaign to get Jarvis Cocker's "Running The World" to Number One in time for Christmas has been extended to January.
Last Friday (20 December), LadBaby's "I Love Sausage Rolls" was announced as the Christmas Number One for 2019, the second consecutive year LadBaby has claimed the Christmas top spot.
Jarvis Cocker's "Running The World" managed to reach Number 48 in the UK Singles Chart, but the campaign to get Cocker's song to the top of the charts hasn't stopped at Christmas.
The Facebook group that started the campaign earlier this month has now changed its name to "Fancy Getting "Running The World" to New Years #1?", and has over 34,000 members.
Over the weekend, Cocker shared his thanks on Instagram, revealing "Running The World" was Number Two in the UK Download Chart. He wrote, "This is absolutely, insanely incredible. We started this for fun and out of disappointment and discontent seven days ago - we didn’t get admins or the nod from the label until Monday. That’s just four days. You took a 13 year old song that a few people remembered very fondly and turned it into the rallying cry of a mini-movement."
He added, "There are now 33,000+ now us. This community has taken a little bit of civil disobedience and turned it into a huge campaign, a community comforting one another and offering hope and humour where it’s most needed. A community that has dedicated it’s time, money and energy to helping the homeless and giving agency to the voiceless over this week."

Darcie Molina, who started the Facebook group with Michael Hall, shared an update on the chart position of the song on Saturday (21 December). She wrote, "We have insider info and are beyond thrilled to tell you that the song is now at #2 in the national day-by-day charts!! The full UK charts. The proper charts. The one we were #48 in yesterday."
