Butch Vig's 5 Billion in Diamonds project reveals new video
5 Billion in Diamonds is the new project from Butch Vig, Garbage founder member and the producer of possibly the greatest record of the '90s if Lauryn Hill's Miseducation or TLC's CrazySexyCool wasn't quite your thing.
Witht their debut album due out tomorrow, the band today reveal a video for the minimalist shoegazy "Travelling" - the first song written by the new band. "James (Grillo - DJ and longtime friend of Vig) and I came up with a couple dreamy guitar loops," Vig tells Best Fit, "which inspired Andy to record all these amazing groovalicious keyboards, which then inspired me to track some funky drums and to bring Justin Meldal-Johnson (NIN, Beck) in on bass."
The track evolved over a couple months, Vig says, but came to life when Bristolian vocalist Helen White wrote and recorded her vocals. "Channeling hints of Cocteau Twins, Free Design and french singers Mireille Mathieu and Francoise Hardy, Helen took the song to another level and raised the bar for all the 5BID songs to come," Vig adds.
The band also features guitarist Alex Lee (Goldfrapp, Strangelove and Suede) and drummer Damon Reece (Spiritualized, Massive Attack, Elizabeth Fraser) and was put together after a chat Vig and Grillo had on how the perfect soundtrack album would sound.
