Burzum's Varg Vikernes to stand trial for race hate
Notorious Norwegian black metal musician, Varg Vikernes is set to stand trial for what the French police are calling the incitement of “racial hatred and glorifying war crimes”.
The guitarist, best known for his project Burzum, was arrested back in July on suspicion of “plotting a massacre”. He was later released but authorities warned he could face further action under anti-racism laws.
As FACT report, Vikernes will be in the dock in July 2014, a postponed date after his lawyer asked for more time to prepare a defence.
Vikernes had recently brought attention to himself after posting an anti-Semitic message on his blog last year, writing: “The final solution to this problem is not to kill anyone, but to raise our children with European ideals and values, and a European world view, and make sure that Christianity dies out when our coward parent generation dies out.”
He was previously sentenced to 21 years in prison back in 1994 for murdering fellow Mayhem member Øystein ‘Euronymous’ Aarseth. Vikernes was released from jail in 2009 after serving 15 years of his sentence.
