Burzum's Varg Vikernes found guilty of race hate
Burzum frontman Varg Vikernes has been found guilty of racial hatred by a French court following a series of online postings last year.
The Norwegian black metal musician recently made headlines after he was arrested on suspicion of “plotting a massacre”, though these charges were later dropped.
Now, Vikernes has been handed a six-month suspended sentence and £6,400 fine for attacking Muslims and Jewish people in a blog post. He had previously claimed the posts to be the work of an impersonator, saying “At any given moment [there are] 350 people pretending to be Varg Vikernes on Facebook”.
Vikernes was sentenced to 21 years in prison back in 1994 for murdering fellow Mayhem member Øystein ‘Euronymous’ Aarseth, released from jail in 2009 after serving 15 years of his sentence.
Meanwhile, UK retailers Sports Direct recently came under fire for selling Burzum t-shirts in their online store.
