Built to Spill, Chad VanGaalen & more added to Sub Pop 25th anniversary festival
Independent label Sub Pop, famous for signing Nirvana and Soundgarden and for promoting the Seattle grunge scene in the late 80′s and 90′s, has announced new acts for its Sub Pop Silver Jubilee on Saturday 13 July.
Built to Spill, King Tuff, Metz and Chad VanGaalen all join scene veterans Mudhoney and a host of others on the lineup for the free festival, according to Pitchfork.
The one-day event, held in the ‘historic’ Georgetown neighbourhood of Seattle, will be held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the label, which was begun in earnest in 1988 by founders Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman.
Sub Pop released the debut albums of both Nirvana and Soundgarden, before the former went on to sign for major label DGC Records. Since its early days, it has put out records for The Jesus and Mary Chain, Flight of the Conchords, Mogwai, and The Shins, amongst countless others.
Poneman was recently in the news for rather less celebratory reasons, as it was revealed this month that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
