Bruce Springsteen dedicates performance of 'Born to Run' to James Gandolfini
One Boss paid tribute to another last night, as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band dedicated a full performance of 1975 album Born to Run to James Gandolfini, star of The Sopranos, who died this week of a suspected heart attack.
At his show in Coventry- the third in an eight-date stadium tour of the UK- Springsteen is said to have honoured his “great friend” and fellow New Jerseyan Gandolfini, who spent eight years carving out his place in the television canon with a peerless portrayal of mob boss Tony Soprano in the long-running HBO series.
E Street Band guitarist Steve Van Zandt, who acted alongside Gandolfini throughout the entire run of the show as Tony Soprano’s consigliere Silvio Dante, posted a brief, heartfelt message on Twitter to express his own sadness at the news:
I have lost a brother and a best friend. The world has lost one of the greatest actors of all time.
