Broken Social Scene share video for "Golden Facelift", their first track in far too long
Broken Social Scene recently unveiled their first track since 2010 for a compilation in Canada (it featured alongside Fucked Up's 17-minute opera).
It's called "Golden Facelift", and sadly isn't a brand new track, but rather an uncovered offcut from their last offering, 2010's Forgiveness Rock Record.
The alt. rock legends have now unveiled a video. It's grisly in places, featuring a few plastic surgery mishaps, but also other things relevant to 2014 such as American rioting and footage of various killers, drug users and alleged sex offenders. A heartwarming look back at the year, it is not.
When the track first surfaced, the band explained its modern poignancy:
"It is a song we as a band all felt strongly about lyrically and musically and we wanted to give it a proper unveiling when the time was right. We feel that chance is now as this year draws to a close. 2014 has not been without its beauty, but it has also been a year of incredible brutality and all of humanity has a great deal to answer for. As songwriters and creative artists we want the world to know Broken Social Scene's aim is to be a voice that will champion underdogs and the idea of goodness on this planet upon which we all take up valuable space."
