Broen announce debut record and unveil DIY vid for "You (Detective)"
Norwegian collective Broen have detailed their debut long-player I <3 Art and shared self-made visuals for latest single "You (Detective)".
The clip was filmed by the group's Heida Mobeck and Anja Lauvdal while on tour in the Netherlands, and features lots of extreme close ups to compliment the song's meaning - it's about "someone scrutinising the details of something rather than the big picture, about zooming in on something so much that you don't understand how it all fits together."
"It’s both soft and hard," says Broen's Hans Hulbækmo of the LP. "Beautiful and ugly or corny. Adventurous and experimental but still groovy. It’s honest and ironic. It has a lot of good energy. It was recorded live in the studio and it was a very joyful and positive experience. I think that shines through in the music, at least for us."
"We all had the need for a new music that was freer and inviting to all different kind of influences,” adds Lars Ove. "We are influenced by everything from Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar to Talking Heads and Paul Simon. Interplay and making room for improvisation are really important parts of our writing and playing - it keeps the music alive."
I <3 Art was recorded with Jaga Jazzist's Marcus Forsgren at Studio Paradiso in Oslo.
Broen play London's Barbican with Ezra Furman as part of the Bella Union 20th anniversary celebrations on 13 July, and then hit Latitude the day after.
