Britney Spears asks judge for father to be permanently removed from conservatorship
Britney Spears' lawyer has put in a formal request for her father to be permanently removed from her current conservatorship arrangement.
Spears has been living under a court-ordered conservatorship since 2008, but this week her lawyer has formally asked a judge that her father, Jamie Spears, be permanently removed from his role as her personal conservator, a position he’s held for more than a decade.
As BBC reports, Jodi Montgomery was temporarily appointed in 2019 after her father stepped down due to health issues, and now Spears wants Montgomery to be her permanent conservator.
Her father is yet to resume his role as Spears' personal conservator, but is still the co-conservator of her estate along with Bessemer Trust Company, which was appointed in November last year.
Variety notes that if Spears' request is granted for Montgomery to be her permanent conservator, Montgomery will be able to control the singer's medical treatment, prosecute restraining orders, appoint security guards and more.
The latest request comes shortly after the release of Hulu's Framing Britney Spears documentary.
