Britney Spears' lawyer says she won't perform again while under father's conservatorship
Britney Spears won't perform any live shows again until her father is removed as conservator of her estate, her lawyer has warned.
Spears' father, Jamie Spears, has been his daughter's conservator for the past 12 years. He took control of the singer's finances and career in 2008 following her mental breakdown.
As BBC reports, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny has declined Spears' attempt to have her father removed as conservator of her estate, but Judge Penny did say she would consider future appeals to have her father dismissed or removed from the conservator role.
Britney Spears' lawyer, Samuel Ingham, told Judge Penny during a hearing yesterday (10 November) that the singer is "afraid" of her father, adding, "She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career." Ingham also said during the hearing that the two have no "viable working relationship", and have not spoken in a "long while".
Her father's lawyer defended his record as her conservator, saying Jamie Spears got his daughter out of debt and highlighting the singer's current net worth of $60m (£45m).
Although Judge Penny declined Spears' latest appeal, she did (at the singer's request), appoint financial company Bessemer Trust as a co-conservator.
