Britney Spears' lawyer officially requests for her father to be replaced as conservator
Britney Spears' new lawyer Mathew Rosengart has made an official request to have her father Jamie Spears removed from her conservatorship.
Yesterday (26 July) Spears' lawyer filed a petition on the star's behalf to have Jamie Spears replaced as conservator of her estate by accountant Jason Rubin.
Spears' father has controlled her money and financial decisions since the start of the conservatorship in 2008.
The request made by Rosengart comes after he replaced Samuel Ingham, a court-appointed lawyer who resigned earlier this month after representing Spears since 2008. It marks the first time since the start of Spears' conservatorship that she's been allowed to choose her own lawyer.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the petition described Spear's relationship with her father as "venomous", and claimed "it impairs Ms. Spears’s mental health, her well-being, and her ability to pursue and continue with her extraordinary career."
Earlier this month, Spears told a judge during a hearing, "I’m here to get rid of my dad and charge him for conservatorship abuse. I want to press charges for abuse on this conservatorship today… all of it."
