Bristol's Cube Cinema venue launches fundraising campaign to survive
Bristol’s Cube Cinema venue and microplex is attempting to buy the building it currently occupies from its landlord when a 15-year long lease expires at the end of 2013.
The volunteer-run community space regularly hold gigs, film screening, art exhibition and other cultural events, recently playing host to a five-day residency from Portland musician Grouper.
Now, with their current lease granted back in 1998 coming to an end on 31 December, the staff are aiming to “become masters of our own destiny” by purchasing the building for a sum of £185,000. In order to do this, however, they are accepting external donations.
Along with £24,749 of their own funds, the Cube has currently received £22,448 from 394 individual donations, meaning that they have another £137,802 to go.
