Boss Hog plan first album in 17 years, share new single "Formula X"
New York City blues-punk group Boss Hog are set to release their first studio record in 17 years this spring.
Boss Hog have also shared "Formula X" a juddering new preview of Brood X, the follow up to 2000's Whiteout.
"There are different broods of cicadas emerging in cyclical periods, there are 13-year cicadas and 17-year cicadas. That’s what Boss Hog is like - we’re operating on our own cycle," says driving force Cristina Martinez. "We go underground for a number of years, re-emerge, make beautiful sounds, and then go away. That’s our cyclical life."
Boss Hog's return isn't a random eruption of creativity and noise - they return with plenty so say.
"A lot of Cristina’s lyrics on this album resonate with me more deeply since the election," says the band's Jon Spencer. "They’re blues songs, protest songs."
