Bonobo's back with "Kerala", the Brandy-sampling first taste of new album Migration
Bonobo returns with "Kerala", the lead single/video from upcoming new LP Migration.
"Kerala", the first track written for the LP (way back in 2014), features a sample of R&B artist Brandy towards the end. The video stars British actress Gemma Arterton.
Bonobo (aka Simon Green) teams with some stellar names on the record, including Nick Murphy (Chet Faker), Rhye's Michael Milosh, Hundred Waters' Nicole Miglis, and Moroccan band Innov Gnawa. The album also features found sounds from across the globe, including elevators from Hong Kong, rain from Seattle, a tumble dryer from Atlanta, and a fan boat engine from New Orleans.
Migration, as Green says, is about "The study of people and spaces.... It’s interesting how one person will take an influence from one part of the world and move with that influence and affect another part of the world. Over time, the identities of places evolve. ”
“My own personal idea of identity has played into this record and the theme of migration,” Green adds. “Is home where you are or where you are from, when you move around?”
Green's sixth record as Bonobo was announced less than two hours into the year and will follow up acclaimed 2013 LP The North Borders - a bunch of murals appeared in London and Los Angeles this week to tease the release.
