Bonnie “Prince” Billy sings “Black Captain” for detained Greenpeace captain Peter Willcox
Peter Willcox, political activist and captain of the Greenpeace ship, was arrested by Russian security services during September when he tried to seize a Russian oil platform. Now, Bonnie “Prince” Billy has come out in support of Willcox’s plight, dedicating a rendition of “Black Captain” to the man.
Changing the lyrics to the song, Will Oldham has unveiled this video supporting Willcox, who is currently being detained for “piracy” and “hooliganism” in Russia before a trial in February.

Here are the amended lyrics:
“Black Captain (For Peter Willcox)”:
When he’d disappeared into hazard I’d feared
I was now meant to sail on my ownThere is a place on the open sea
You will say it is like any other
It has an air of importance to me
As it waits for the hull of my brother
It had been my thought that the power he got
Couldn’t be there without what I gave him
And now I find a good part of my mind
Will be worthless unless I help save himHe ain’t here ain’t here
I can’t handle this lack
And now
I
Want my captain back
