Bombay Bicycle Club kick off 2020 with new single "I Can Hardly Speak"
Bombay Bicycle Club have got 2020 off to a great start by sharing new single "I Can Hardly Speak", lifted from their first album in five years, Everything Else Has Gone Wrong.
"I Can Hardly Speak" is the fourth track to be shared from Everything Else Has Gone Wrong, after "Racing Stripes", "Everything Else has Gone Wrong", and "Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You)".
Explaining the new single on Instagram, the band writes, "Happy New Year. We hope you’ve all recovered from the excesses of last night. If you’re hungover, dreading going back to work, or simply wallowing in shame, we have a tonic - another new song. "I Can Hardly Speak" was one of the first songs to be written for the album. In fact, it was written while we were still touring So Long, See You Tomorrow in 2014, although we only rediscovered the demo this year when the album was nearly finished."
They add, "The song is self-explanatory, it’s a song about struggling to express yourself with words and being an introvert."
Bombay Bicycle Club's fifth LP was largely recorded in the US with producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten, The War On Drugs), and is their first since 2014's So Long, See You Tomorrow.
When announcing their new album, Bombay Bicycle Club said of the title, "This is an album for anyone who’s ever turned to music in a time of crisis, whether personal or political. It’s about the solace one can get from listening to music or playing music when everything else has gone wrong. It’s about finding kernels of hope and renewal in dire situations."
