Blur, Arctic Monkeys, Paul McCartney, and more to auction personal items for refugee charity
Blur's ice cream van is one of a number of items up for sale in the Star Boot Sale, a charity auction raising money for refugees.
Other items include Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys' jacket from the 2014 BRIT Awards, a signed guitar from Coldplay, and a jewellery box from Sir Paul McCartney (plus other items). Many more one-of-a-kind personal items, pieces of merchandise, and memorabilia will be sold to raise money for refugees affected by the ongoing conflict in Syria.
You'll be able to bid on all the items from 9pm on 26 November until 9pm on 6 December. All funds raised from the auction will go directly to the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
Blur drummer Dave Rowntree, galvanised by the recent attacks in Paris and Beirut, has called for Britain's creative talents to join the cause. Rowntree says: “The Bataclan is part of the DNA of the European music industry. I’ve played there, as have most of the musicians I know. Now, more than ever, we must show our support for the men, women, and children who are fleeing terror in Syria because, on Friday, we all saw what that terror looks like... after nearly five years of conflict in Syria, four million people have fled their homes and are seeking safety in neighbouring countries in the Middle East. With winter approaching the crisis will become even more desperate. We want to raise money to buy winter kits for refugees, containing warm clothes, blankets and bedding. All proceeds will go directly to those in need.”
The IRC's President and CEO, David Miliband, adds: "Horrific attacks like those in Paris and Beirut must not blind us from helping the victims of the world’s conflicts. These are innocent people fleeing a protracted conflict which has been characterised by unimaginable acts of violence, including those perpetrated by ISIS, the architects of the Paris atrocities.”
The IRC provides essential emergency assistance for refugees in Syria and across the region in Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Turkey.
