Blue Lab Beats announce new album with Fela Kuti and KillBeatz collaboration "Motherland Journey"
Blue Lab Beats have announced their new album Motherland Journey, and have shared the title-track that features Fela Kuti and KillBeatz.
"Motherland Journey" co-written with KillBeatz and featuring vocals from the late Fela Kuti follows the duo's November single "Labels" with Tiana Major9 and Kofi Stone, and arrives alongside news of their upcoming album of the same name, which will follow April's The Sounds of Afrotronica and 2019's Voyage.
The song includes Fela Kuti's acappella from his track "Everything Scatter".
Speaking about the album title-track, Blue Lab Beats said, ""Motherland Journey" is a very special song to us especially having a legendary Fela Kuti feature on this track. We made this song when we were in Ghana with the one and only KillBeatz. When we got confirmation to have Fela Kuti‘s vocals from his publishers in Nigeria we were honestly blown away that he could really feature on our tracks. An absolute dream come true. When we got Poppy and Kaidi to play the horn line then we definitely got the song we wanted."
Motherland Journey will include 17 songs in total, and appearances from Ego Ella May, Pip Millett, Jerome Thomas and many more.
