Radiohead and Harry Styles tracks covered by Blaenavon
Blaenavon today bounce out a brace of bewitching (b)cover ballads - Harry Styles' "Sign Of The Times" and Radiohead's "High And Dry".
The new tracks come on the heels of surprise EP Prague '99. They were originally recorded for the BBC but now get a life all of their own, with pals Blaine Harrison (Mystery Jets) and Marika Hackman helping out on the Radiohead rendition.
"Here you have two very different covers that mean very different things to us," explains the band's Ben Gregory. "'Sign of the Times' is a massive song... could be a classic, even. The lad’s got an impressive range and we fancied giving it a crack and keeping it sparse. ‘High And Dry’ however, we wanted to go all out. We were lucky enough to be joined by two amazing musicians (Blaine from Mystery Jets and Marika Hackman) and we tried to keep it close to the original, as it’s pretty perfect as is. It’s a beautiful arrangement and I think you can hear how much we’re all enjoying it in the recording."
Blaenavon are set to play By The Sea festival this weekend and also have shows with Mystery Jets and Sundara Karma in the calendar. They've got their own UK headline shows in November as well - find out the full details.
Gregory is a guest on our new podcast series Talk The Line; we speak to him about his love of German literature - in particular the works for Herman Hesse. Tune in now.
