Birmingham venue/bar Alfie Bird & The Oobleck announces closure
Birmingham venue/bar Alfie Bird & The Oobleck have announced their immediate, permanent closure.
The 400-capacity venue, located at Digbeth's Custard Factory quarter, has played host to Shura, Yak, !!!, and many more in recent times.
Writing on Facebook, the venue explain that "overheads" and "tough conditions" have forced their hand:
As some may have been aware by now, we have some bad news to communicate. It is with a heavy heart that we at Alfie Bird & The Oobleck need to admit defeat in our ongoing challenge to get a live music venue within The Custard Factory to work for the long term, and as of immediately the venue will be closed permanently. Its been a long 2 years of struggling with our overheads under tough conditions, and has come to the point of no return.
We have really enjoyed being involved in the promoting of some awesome events, had some great times and met some wonderful people, so we are in no rush to discontinue our efforts in promoting around the city in one way or another. Watch this space for new show announcements at a venue near you.
Please note, All events currently on sale are still valid. We are rallying in talks to move them to suitable alternative venues. Announcements of venue changes will be made shortly.
Shamrocks Festival on Sunday 13th March at Zellig Car Park is not affected by this change, and will go ahead as planned with some tweaks to the lineup to accommodate, and will effectively be our last hurrah.
