Bill Callahan, Bonnie "Prince" Billy and David Grubbs cover Leonard Cohen's "The Night of Santiago"
The start of a new week means a new Bill Callahan and Bonnie "Prince" Billy cover, and this time they've recruited Squirrel Bait's David Grubbs to cover Leonard Cohen's "The Night of Santiago".
Callahan and Bonnie "Prince" Billy's cover of Cohen's "The Night of Santiago" follows last week's cover of Will Oldham's own Palace track "Arise, Therefore" with Six Organs of Admittance, aka Ben Chasny, and sees the two musicians cover the track with help from David Grubbs.
"The Night of Santiago" featured on Cohen's 2019 posthumous album Thanks For The Dance.
As well as covering Cohen and Palace tracks over the past couple of weeks, Callahan and Oldham have also covered "Night Rider's Lament" with Wand's Cory Hanson, Little Feat's "I've Been the One" with Meg Baird, Robert Wyatt's "Sea Song" with Mick Turner, Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues", Billie Eilish's "Wish You Were Gay" with The High Llamas’ Sean O’Hagan. Other covers by Callahan and Oldham include their version of Yusuf/Cat Stevens' "Blackness of the Night" with AZITA, and a cover of Hank Williams Jr.'s "O.D.'d in Denver" featuring Matt Sweeney.
