Bill Callahan and Bonnie "Prince" Billy cover Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues"
Bill Callahan and Bonnie "Prince" Billy have recruited guitarist Bill MacKay to feature on their cover of Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues".
Callahan and Will Oldham, aka Bonnie "Prince" Billy, have been releasing numerous covers over the past month or so, and have today (16 November) shared their version of Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues", with help from guitarist Bill MacKay.
The original track was written by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, and featured on Steely Dan's 1977 album Aja.
"Deacon Blues" follows last month's cover of Billie Eilish's "Wish You Were Gay" with The High Llamas’ Sean O’Hagan. Other covers by Callahan and Oldham include their version of Yusuf/Cat Stevens' "Blackness of the Night" with AZITA, and a cover of Hank Williams Jr.'s "O.D.'d in Denver" featuring Matt Sweeney.
