Big Thief, Ex:Re and more cover 4AD artists to complete label's 40th anniversary compilation
The final instalment of 4AD's 40th anniversary compilation Bills & Aches & Blues has been released today (31 March), featuring covers of other 4AD artists by the likes of Big Thief, Ex:Re and more.
The fourth and final side of Bills & Aches & Blues sees Big Thief cover The Breeders' "Off You", and features Ex:Re's cover of Blonde Redhead's "Misery Is a Butterfly", Becky And The Birds' cover of Bon Iver's "The Wolves Act I and II" and SOHN's version of Tim Buckley's "Song To The Siren".
Bills & Aches & Blues was first announced earlier this month to celebrate the label's 40th anniversary. 4AD actually turned 40 in 2020, but due to the pandemic, the label decided to mark the milestone this year instead with a compilation that sees current 4AD artists covering songs from the across the label's 41 years of existence.
The previous sides of the compilation featured covers of Grimes, Colourbox, Pixies and more by the likes of Dry Cleaning, Tkay Maidza, Efterklang, U.S. Girls, Future Islands and more.
Its title is inspired by the opening line of Cocteau Twins' "Cherry Coloured Funk", and will also include covers by Big Thief, Ex:Re and more.
