Bestival announces gourmet grub, busking world record, comedy, and gimp fights
Bestival has pretty much finished its musical lineup, bar one or two new names, but they've revealed a whole host of comedy, food, and arts recently.
Phil Nichol, Andy Askins, Daniel Sloss, Ian Stone, Late Night Gimp Fight, Titty Bar Ha Ha, Jollyboat, Joel Dommett, Kai Humphries, Benny Boot, Alfie Brown, Abandoman, Andrew Maxwell, The Noise Next Door, Jamali Maddix, Paul McCaffrey, Lolly Adefope, Wayne Deakin, Mickey D, The Herbert, Eric Lampaert, Elliot Steel, Tim Renkow, Amy Howerska, Brennan Reece, Garrett Millerick and James Loveridge have all been confirmed for the comedy areas.
This year sees the return of the Feast Collective, a gathering of top-notch eateries, including Korean BBQ from Korrito, sushi from Happy Maki, an African "culinary experience" from Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen, and much more.
There's also a brand new area called Carnivale, produced in collaboration with one of Europe's leading carnival groups, Shademakers, featuring performing arts, a pirate ship stage, workshops, and a range of parades.
Rob da Bank said of the comedy additions: “Aside from a dance, a sing-along and the occasional stiff drink, we do like a laugh at Bestival… which is why our head of comedy has only gone and booked another corking line up of comics, from Andrew Maxwell to Abandoman and Late Night Gimp Fight, which sounds like fun! We’re also bringing comedy up the hill to our ace new Slow Motion area, so if you can’t find it just follow the laughter."
He also spoke about this year's world record attempt (Largest Number of Buskers in One Place) following the success of last year's giant disco ball: “We do love breaking records at Bestival, but this one isn’t all about a world record… it’s about a huge Summer of Love sing-along. Our mates CoCo and The Butterfields suggested it would be a cool idea to do a little jam session and bring busking to Bestival, but with your help this could turn into the biggest busk ever! So dust off your tambourine, polish your triangle and pack your banjo for September”.
