Bernard + Edith announce debut record Jem, share new cut "Tidal Wave"
Bernard + Edith have announced the release of their debut record on Bella Union, Jem, and are sharing "Tidal Wave" to celebrate.
The Manchester twosome aren't actually called Bernard or Edith - those are their middle names - but they wanted the project to evoke images of "an older couple rather than a pair in their early twenties".
Speaking about their inspirations, the duo's Greta Carroll - 'Edith' - says: “Nick [Delap - 'Bernard'] was more into indie and electronica and I was a huge jazz fan, singers like Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Julie London... but then together we veered toward more experimental composition, like Meredith Monk and Philip Glass. And Twin Peaks was major for us, not just the soundtrack but the imagery and the weirdness.”
Jem is out 11 May on Bella Union.
