Berghain and other clubs to host protest parties against Russia's new anti-homosexuality law
Ravers of the world are set to unite in protest against a new law recently passed in Russia that deems it illegal for residents to discuss homosexuality with anyone under the age of 18.
The act, implemented last month, sees a ban of so-called ”propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations around minors”. The controversial bill received wide-spread support from the Russian Parliament, to the disgust of LGBT activists worldwide.
Now, Berlin’s Berghain, New York’s Output and Munich’s Harry Klein nightclubs will host “protest parties” to raise money for LGBT organisation All Out.
A statement from Berghain reads: “Equality and tolerance are basic values that the club and music scene has always supported. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that the level of freedom we have achieved cannot be taken for granted, be it here or elsewhere.”
The Berlin leg will take place on 12 September, with the others to be scheduled shortly.
