Michael Kiwanuka has topped the BBC’s annual list showcasing this year’s most tipped artists.
The 24-year old, who’s been compared to Bill Withers, beat competition from the likes of Niki & The Dove, Azealia Banks, Skrillex and Frank Ocean to take the title.
Kiwanuka is signed to the Communion label, run by Ben Lovett from Mumford and Sons.
The list is compiled by votes from UK-based ‘tastemakers’ – critics, broadcasters, writers and bloggers – and is now in its tenth year. Artists are eligible if they haven’t had a UK top 20 single or album prior to 13 November 2011 or are generally known to the public.
Kiwanuka’s debut album Home Again, will be released in early March.
