BBC Introducing to hold SXSW showcase featuring SOAK, Gengahr and more
BBC Introducing, in association with PRS For Music Foundation, has announced that it will be holding a showcase of up-and-coming British artists at SXSW this year.
Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq and the PRS For Music Foundation were part of a panel that chose the acts.
The lineup for the BBC Introducing showcase includes Spring King, SOAK, Blossoms and Gengahr alongside already-announced artists Little Simz and Jack Garratt.
Explaining the reasoning behind the chosen acts and why it's such an exciting opportunity, panellist Lamacq said:
"For me, the exciting aspect of SXSW is – not just seeing a lot of new bands – but trying to put them into context and work out where music might be going, because it’s a festival that’s become a bit of a musical barometer over the years. It’s given us our first sighting of numerous bands who’ve gone on to greater success, including some bands we might never have discovered otherwise. And it’s given us a chance to talk music with people from all different sorts of genres and backgrounds."
The showcase will take place at Latitude 30 on Wednesday 18 March. SXSW Festival takes place in Austin, Texas, from 17-22 March.
BBC Introducing also hosted a showcase in 2014, featuring lauded sets by Royal Blood, Thumpers, Cousin Marnie, Woman’s Hour, Public Service Broadcasting and Longfellow.
SOAK recently announced a series of free shows, presented by The Line Of Best Fit, called SK9 that are to take place in skateparks across the UK and Ireland. For more information, head here.
