Bandcamp to continue waiving revenue shares on first Friday of each month for the rest of 2020
Bandcamp has confirmed it will continue to waive its revenue shares on the first Friday of each month for the rest of the year.
To support artists amid the current coronavirus pandemic, Bandcamp has been giving up its revenue shares for 24 hourson multiple Fridays, meaning artists have received full payments for merch and music sold via Bandcamp to hopefully provide some money to artists that they've lost following festival/tour cancellations due to the pandemic.
The first Bandcamp Friday took place on 20 March, and within 24 hours the site sold more than $4.1 million. Bandcamp continued to give up its revenue shares on the first Friday of each month in May and June too. Across those four days of the music site waiving its revenue shares, more than $20million was raised for artists and labels across the site.
Yesterday (23 July), Bandcamp announced that they will continue its Bandcamp Fridays on the first Friday of each month for the rest of 2020. The next Bandcamp Friday event takes place on 7 August.
The remaining dates for the rest of 2020 include 4 September, 2 October, 6 November and 4 December.
