A$AP Rocky apologies to NBA player Jason Collins after alleged homophobia
A$AP Rocky faced criticism last month for what many saw as homophobic behaviour towards openly gay NBA player Jason Collins when the pair appeared at this year’s MTV VMAs.
Collins and A$AP were chosen by MTV to present the opening segment before Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ performance of ‘Same Love’, a song which has become a LGBT anthem since its release.
But during the basketball player’s speech regarding his decision to come out, Rocky was pictured sniggering, before plugging friend A$AP Ferg’s new album Trap Lord and proceeding to point to Collins in a seemingly flippant way when using the term “homosexuality”.
Since, however, the rapper has expressed his regret for how he came across, stating it as never his intention to seem bigoted.
“I’m mad that my facial expressions was like that because I’m not homophobic at all, and that whole thing just came off real homophobic,” Rocky told Stashed recently. “I didn’t really notice it until I got home and saw it. I apologize to Jason for that, because people was laughing and shit, and you know… I really don’t think that’s funny.
“Truthfully I got gay people in my family. I don’t give a fuck if you gay or you not, I just found it odd that MTV wanted to stand me next to this n***a when they are talking about gay people, that’s all. You know what I’m saying?”
